How to get a Domain Name for your dynamic IP address?

Want to host an website from your PC or laptop?
You have interest on getting a domain name. But the problem is your IP address is not static. Having a dynamic IP,you need a dynamic DNS service to map your changing IP to a constant domain name.
Here is how to do things right.
Things you need to do are,
  • Setup an Dynamic DNS service account
  • Setting up a domain name for your IP
  • Setting up router setting

Some of the Dynamic DNS service providers are,
  1. dlinkddns.com
  2. DynDNS.org
  3. 3322.org
  4. www.noip.com
  5. freedns.afraid.org

Settinng up Dynamic DNS account

You need to select anyone of the above service providers and sign up like you would to any email account.You need to give the basic details.You may get a free account or a premium account depending upon your choice.

Setting up Domain Name

You need to select a name of your choice that is available in the pool.The site will automatically detect your IP address.Select the setting of your choice you are intending to use.After setting up your domain name should be usable after the router settings is done.

After the above steps you may need to do this step to get your domain name to work. You need to do to 192.168.1.1 to get the router login page and then login by using the default username and password as admin.
Under the advanced setup tab, go to Dynamic DNS. You will get the following screen if you click add new.
 
You need to specify the details of sevice provider, your selected domain name and your user credentials and then click on apply to save it. You are done!!!. Now you can use the domain name as a normal website address to your own advantage.
